The
MDX-540 is revolutionizing rapid prototyping. Subtractive
Rapid Prototyping (SRP) can reduce the time and cost of product
development over additive processes. The MDX-540
incorporate Feed Forward Processing that: Predicts tool movements
by working in a closed loop, Looks ahead to gather information about
upcoming tool paths and Dramatically improves SRP speed and precision.
Turn CAD designs into 3D prototypes
quickly and inexpensively. Work flawlessly with GibbsCAM
and other CAM software.
The MDX-540 produces hi-quality
molds in just a few hours. Large work area (19.6(X) x 15.7(Y) x 6.1(Z) inches)
Easy, unattended creation of 3D prototypes and
molds
CNC milling software includes Visual Mill &
Modela Player 4
Supports industry standard NC codes
Easily handles wide range of materials - including:
wood, brass & copper
Mills at 400 to 12,000 rpm
Built-in safety features & optional cover
Accuracy of within 0.000039/step (0.001mm/step)
SRP
- starting with a solid object and removing unwanted material -
has several advantages over traditional rapid prototyping. Significantly
less expensive than rapid prototyping machines with the same resolution,
SRP machines mill a wider range of materials that cost less and
have no need for chemicals or post finishing work. Plus, they produce
a superior finish.
An optional Automatic Tool
Changer (ATC) and Rotary Axis Unit are available for
the MDX-540. The ATC adds unattended milling capability, with
tool length offsets and automatic measurement features.
The
optional Rotary Axis Units angle control feature provides
enhanced precision and tolerances and enables the MDX-540 to become
a 4-axis machine capable of milling all four sides of an object.
MDX-540 Features:
The
MDX-540 features Feed Forward Processing (FFP)
a predictive technology that anticipates tool path for greater
accuracy, speed and energy efficiency. Roland has combined FFP technology
with belt drives and digital AC Servo brushless motors on the X,
Y and Z axes to generate high speed and high torque for smooth,
steady milling.
Materials:
The MDX- 540 mills ABS, RenShape Board, polyurethane, wax,
aluminum, brass and other non-ferrous metals.
Ideal for milling high-precision prototypes from SRP boards made
from light-density and medium-density
polyurethane.
Software included with the MDX-540
Bundled with all Roland milling
machines, the MODELA CAM software package accepts DXF and STL files
exported from commercially available CAD/CAM software. The program
allows for uniform 3D scaling, selection of milling direction and
automatic generation and display of the tool path. Cutting depths
and speeds are controlled from a predefined material library, or
they can be set to user-defined specifications. The MODELA CAM software
package is compatible with Windows® 98/NT/XP.
Bundled SRP Player CAM software automates the prototyping process and generates tool paths with high speed and precision. The user-friendly, wizard-based program offers uniform 3D scaling, support for 4-axis milling, and simulation of finished 3D parts. It lets engineers quickly review the simulated prototype on the monitor and send it to the MDX-540 for production. The end result is faster prototype production, tighter dimensional accuracies and a silky smooth surface finish.
Safety:
The MDX-540's emergency
stop switch enables you to shut down the machine at the push of
a button. An optional safety cover makes the cutting mechanism inaccessible
during operation. It also prevents dust produced during the machining
operation from entering the surrounding environment. This makes
it possible to operate the MDX-650 even in an office environment.
